Can enameled wire conduct electricity?
Yes. Enamelled wire is primarily used for winding coils. It itself serves as a type of conductive wire. However, to ensure that adjacent wires can make contact with each other, a very thin layer of varnish—non-conductive but highly adherent—is coated on the outside. The reason we don't use materials like plastic PVC is that the wires used for coil winding are relatively thin; adding another plastic jacket would make the wire thicker and compromise its usability.

How do you solder enameled wire?
In general, the solderability test for enameled wire is quite simple: Place a solder bar inside a solder bath, heat it to a high temperature until it melts, then directly dip the enameled wire into the solder bath. After holding it there for one or two seconds, quickly remove it and observe whether the solder coverage on the wire’s surface is uniform. If the enameled wire has an extremely fine diameter, you can twist several strands of enameled wire together before soldering them as a single bundle. However, it’s important to note that the critical soldering temperature differs slightly between single-strand and multi-strand enameled wires—specifically, the critical temperature for multi-strand soldering is slightly higher than that for single-strand soldering. Additionally, when soldering ultra-fine wires, if the solder bath temperature is too high, the enameled wire may easily melt and break. When soldering enameled wire for applications such as coils, the same soldering setup is used; the only difference is that the process has been automated.

The production process flow of enameled wire
Wire Unwinding: On a normally operating enameled wire machine, operators spend most of their energy and physical effort on the wire-unwinding process. Changing wire spools requires considerable labor from the operator, and during wire changes, joints are prone to quality issues and operational failures. An effective solution is to use large-capacity wire-unwinding systems. The key to efficient wire unwinding lies in controlling tension: excessive tension not only stretches the conductor, causing the wire surface to lose its luster, but also adversely affects multiple performance characteristics of the enameled wire.

What are the different categories of enameled wire?
Enamelled wire is a key raw material for products such as motors, electrical appliances, and household appliances. In particular, in recent years, the power industry has achieved sustained rapid growth, and the rapid development of household appliances has opened up broader application areas for enamelled wire, thereby placing increasingly higher demands on this product. As a result, it has become inevitable to adjust the product structure of enamelled wire. Consequently, the associated raw materials (copper and enamel), enamelling processes, process equipment, and testing methods all urgently require further research and development. There are quite a few categories involved; details are provided below:

Enamelled copper wire is the core of motors and coils.
Enamelled wire is a type of copper wire that, based on the law of electromagnetic induction, enables the mutual conversion between electrical energy and magnetic energy. It is a crucial raw material for core components such as motor windings in automobiles, industrial motors, household appliances, electronic devices, and induction coils used in communication equipment. With the rapid development of the modern chemical industry, today’s enamelled wires utilize synthetic resins as insulation coatings, and their variety has become increasingly diverse—ranging from aldehyde-based resins with excellent resistance to transformer oil to polyimide-based resins that offer superior temperature resistance.
